Leftist Think Tanks churn out policy papers advocating big government programs

A think tank is an organization, institute, corporation, or group that conducts research and engages in advocacy.

The National Institute for Research Advancement hails think tanks as "... one of the main policy actors in democratic societies", which assure a "... pluralistic, open and accountable process of policy analysis, research, decision-making and evaluation", critics of think tanks have called them "little more than public relations fronts...generating self-serving scholarship that serves the advocacy goals of their industry sponsors."

The first article written about the Democracy Alliance indicated that its donors desired to build a new network of progressive think tanks.

This dream is being realized on the national level, with groups such as the Center for American Progress and the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities. Parallel Party Pushes Democrats is an insightful look at how progressive think tanks have an impact.

The dream of lavishly funded think tanks that can create and spread left-wing messaging is also being realized in the states. Consider the State Fiscal Initiative Analysis, with "partners" now in 29 states.
